Irish Setters are rowdy redheads from Ireland. Their coats weren't always red. Owners once preferred Irish Setters to be red and white, easier to see in hunting fields. As they gained popularity as show dogs and were used less for hunting, solid red coats became the fashionable standard. Originally developed as bird dogs, Irish Setters have flamboyance, drive, and energy.
